Bacon and Corgo

In the voice of Jack Handy

When I eat bacon, I like to show it to my Corgi. He gets excited because he likes bacon and, on occasion, he gets a little taste.

This time, I ate ALL the bacon and he got none and I wiped my greasy bacaon hands off on him.

To Nom or Not to Nom...

With the warmer weather upon us we have a decent number of flying insects that Corgo has taken keen interest in mostly because they keep dive bombing him.

These winged critters fall into two categories...Sky Raisins (flies) and Nope Flies (wasps, bees and stinger baring bastards.

My concern is, how do I train Corgo to avoid the Nope Flies? To date he’s not suffered the venomous sting of a Nope Fly and I know not if he’s allergic let alone the pain that comes from chomping down on a Nope Fly.

Dogservation

Corgo is fond of Borking. Borking at a cat, Borking at a plastic bag flagellating in the breeze high up in a tree, Borking at things both unseen and unheard. He is fond of the Bork.

An amusing sound to me, one which I’ve not yet been able to record is the Bork-while-trotting, a sort of vibrato-Bork...the Bork that is punctuated by every forward footfall and he trots to or from the Bork-worthy event.

Long live the Bork! 🎶

Lineman versus Corgi

Since the neighbor had a shed burn down recently we’ve had all kinds of “intruders” from Police to Firemen but tonight, it was the Lineman; pulling new lines to repair the flame damage.

Poor Auggie was making a pest of himself, charging and Borking at the man in the cherry picker who DARED hover thirty feet over HIS property!

Bork! Bork Bork Bork!! Baroooooooo!!!

Dog.

Shut it.

Now.

Bread Thief

Today, over my lunch hour, I was home with The Augster. I was reheating some leftovers and while waiting I was munching on some toast...a fact which Auggie took great interest in. At one point, I’d taken a bite and dropped my toast containing hand to my side while not paying much attention when I felt the quick and deft touch of grazing teeth and whiskers on my fingers...and my toast was gone.

Thieving little bugger nicked my toast!

A tenuous truce

It was a brief truce, struck between foes, rather highly antagonist peoples.

Perhaps it was the peak heat of the day or the overly cumbersome umbrella stand that maintained the peace...I will never know for certain.

Kong Harness Progress

Dogservation

Young Auggie just had his one year Birthday back on September 21st. He's not the russet potato he used to be and had come a long way figuring out that walks aren't torture, that his food dish will always be full and that his humans aren't chew toys (still working on this one).

Today as I was cleaning I came upon a Kong harness, one many of his predecessors had worn and got the idea to fit him up with it.

I eyeballed a few of the adjustments while Augs watched me intently and soothing him all the while, slipped it over his head and under is arm which he let me do. Once  in place, I ran my fingers under for fitness and realized it was still too tight and loosened up the straps.

When I was done he just sat there shaking as if thunder were booming outside. I reassured him and let him be. I took a few minutes to cycle some laundry then came back to him. He'd stopped shaking but now just seemed indignant that I'd trussed him up further with more handles to grab; he was already in his collar after all.

Although hesitant, he did come to my call and ran excitedly to me in the yard. His stride looked unencumbered and he was lightning quick, dodging this and that as he jetted around the yard.

That was a good introduction, I thought and bade him come to me. With one click, the chest latch was loosed and the whole harness pulled forward and off and he just stared at it. I laid it in a chair which is now nose height for him and he began sniffing and sniffing at it but eventually ignored it to pursue some noise I could not perceive at the corner of the yard.

Progress.
